HI Steph! Good luck with the blogging!
hello there my mentor.. 🙂
Glad of you to drop by.. hope i’ve captured your interest with my articles.. Feel free to place in your comments.. 🙂
I’ll be seeing you much more then..
Keep safe..
hi steph!
by the way, thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂 interesting articles. You seem to have a great interest in skin whitening and whitening products. Well, I’ve actually been through that whole obsession with peaches-and-cream complexion but I’m over it… sorta. Okay, fine, I’m not. haha. I guess it’s a Filipino thing… 🙂
Anyway, you mentioned that you’re doing a research on a Filipino’s fascination with white skin. Sadly, capitalists (both foreign and national) are profiting from it at the expense of our self image.
Well, can’t blame ourselves for that. I can’t consider myself an expert on the matter but I’d be happy to share my insights.
One theory we had is, this fixation on white skin can be blamed on almost 5 centuries of colonization by Europeans. We prefer to call it “colonial mentality”. They have white skin and we don’t and our ancestors saw that attribute as indicative of their superiority over us “Indios” as the Spaniards referred to us. I guess this has forever been embedded in our consciousness even after the Spaniards left the Philippine Islands. So if you notice, most of the celebrities here are mestizas (cough cough *mongrels* cough cough).
Another theory would be our fascination with the “exotic”. Filipinos have brown skin. That’s an established fact. It’s a legacy of our Malayan ancestry. It’s what we have in common with our Malaysian and Indonesian brothers and sisters. If J.Lo wasn’t Hollywood royalty and we see her strutting by the market or elsewhere, nobody would give her a second glance, if not for her booty that is. That’s because she blends in, with her olive complexion and all. But if a fair skinned, half Irish-half Filipina would pass by, she’s guaranteed to turn heads, even when she’s just wearing some rags. That’s because she stands out, nay, sticks out like a sore thumb. conclusion: white skin=uncommon=exotic=H.O.T.
But the good news is, we are starting to get comfy with our own skin. Er… skin tone I mean.
Oh, another thing… a cheaper way to fairer, clearer skin is Kojic acid soap. Tried and tested by yours truly. 🙂 no need for glutathione shots and capsules.
hope I was able to help you out with your research. By the way, from what country are you from?
hello there ms. urban princess..
Thank you for dropping by my site.. I’m sorry for the late reply.
Hahaha.. Im a pinoy myself… Born and grew up here.. Stayed in Papua New Guinea also, however, for just a few years.
Anyways, I’m glad you’ve voiced your opinion about this. Yeah, I just got so eager about the issue since my sister herself had been insiting that I should go get her these skin whitening products. LOL!
I also appreciate you sharing me about that soap. Told my sister about it also, and she’ll go try it out.. For the meantime, i’ll be sticking with Mosbeau Products. I believe it truly works.
You should go try it as well.. 🙂
Yes, you’ve enlightened me with so much about my research. I hope this won’t be the last time I’ll hear from you.
Thanks again Ms. Princess..
thanks for commenting on my odd poetry swirl
someone was paying attention after all!
skin whitening? i always wanted my fair skin to go away…
i was always envying the asian/pan pacific/island girls for their ease of turning brown in the sun in the days before any of us had to think about melanoma…

thanks for the tip as well… read your blogs about mosbeau and got intrigued by the product… :)I will be pleased with even just a coffee-with-3-teaspoons-of-creamer, half baked look (though my cousin calls it the “hey-I-got-Hepatitis” look) so i could still look good with bronzers… 🙂 a derma once told me that whitening products can lighten scars as well so i guess it’s also another reason why i’m into the skin whitening craze…

Haha… Actually I’ve heard that Mosbeau is willing to give out free products to the first 3 bloggers who writes about them. So, I got mine.. Just started using them though.. 🙂 Maybe you can email me so that i can send u the details about this..
Yeap, from Papua New Guinea.. And uhuh.. I can speak tagalog now.. I actually had my college years here in the Philippines. LOL! it took me more than 6 years before I got to straighten out my tongue in Filipino.. I just started speaking the language back when I was in College, 1st yr, 2nd sem to be exact. LOL! So I had to learn about it, since I took my Filipino subject 3 times before I graduated. Hahaha.. Those were the days..
Mosbeau really is interesting, That’s why since i made this account, most of my posts were about them… and True, whitening products does lighten up scars.. Its effective/happening to me.. Yeah, we better do meet up soon.. I bet we have a lot to talk about.. 🙂
